Twenty One Pilots’ ‘Breach’ Hits No. 1 On Billboard 200

Share

Twenty One Pilots have made history. Their eighth studio album Breach has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 , the band’s first time reaching the top spot in over a decade, and the first rock album to hit No. 1 since Tool’s Fear Inoculum in 2019.

According to Luminate, Breach opened with 200,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending September 18. It’s not only Twenty One Pilots’ strongest sales week ever, but also the biggest week for a rock album in six years. Tool might have done it with Fear Inoculum back in 2019 (270,000 units), but now Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have joined that rare company. Share that stat with a Tool diehard and watch the sparks fly.

Breach also gives Twenty One Pilots their fifth top 10 record, and their first No. 1 since Blurryface topped the charts on June 6, 2015. The new record doubles as a finale, closing the long running narrative thread that’s woven through the band’s music since their breakthrough.

Before the release, Joseph admitted on Instagram that Breach “took everything I had left.” He also hinted that once their current U.S. tour and a handful of international festival dates are finished, the band plans to take an extended break. “I’m so, so pumped for you guys to hear this record. Breach took everything I had left; but as I stare at these finished wav files, I realise how little they mean until they get to you,” he wrote.

The duo are on the road in North America now, with the tour wrapping at the end of October. After a rest period, Twenty One Pilots are already locked for Germany’s Southside Festival and Hurricane Festival in 2026.

For a band known for world building, Breach is more than a chart win, it’s the loudest possible exclamation point at the end of a story they’ve been telling for years.
