Dinosaur Pile-Up are back in the spotlight with I’ve Felt Better, their first album in six years and frontman Matt Bigland isn’t shying away from the heavy stuff that shaped it.
Written in the shadow of hospitalisation for ulcerative colitis and years of personal upheaval, I’ve Felt Better pushes harder than their last record Celebrity Mansions. Tracks like ‘My Way’, ‘Big Dogs’ and ‘’Bout To Lose It’ come out swinging with serrated riffs and unapologetic bite, while ‘Sick Of Being Down’ pulls the curtain back on something far more personal. Bigland has described the song as a “post-traumatic existential breakdown,” yet it still lands with a hook fans can scream along to.
The album blends aggression and catharsis in equal measure, a reflection of Bigland processing real pain and finding strength amongst it all. His Instagram, full of candid shots outside the spotlight, blurs the line between “real Matt” and the persona he brings to the stage. It’s a reminder that Dinosaur Pile-Up’s rawness doesn’t end when the amps are switched off.
US Tour With A Day To Remember + Yellowcard
This October, Dinosaur Pile-Up join A Day To Remember and Yellowcard for a huge US arena tour. For a band that cut their teeth in smaller venues, it’s a chance to win over thousands of fresh ears, something Bigland and co. have plenty of experience with after sharing stages with Limp Bizkit, a surreal highlight that saw them rubbing shoulders with Fred Durst.
With I’ve Felt Better, Bigland seems more grounded than ever, even as the music grows sharper and heavier. It’s an album that owns the struggle while still making space for catharsis, proving Dinosaur Pile-Up are more than just back, they’re thriving.
