Sludge supergroup Sun Don’t Shine, featuring members of Crowbar, Down, and Type O Negative have announced their debut album Birth to Death and have unveiled haunting new single ‘In the End’.
There’s a storm brewing in the sludge world, and it goes by the name Sun Don’t Shine, a new super group made up of members of Crowbar, Down, and Type O Negative. The band has officially announced that their debut album, Birth to Death, will arrive in 2026, and they’ve offered a bleak, beautiful glimpse into it with their new single, ‘In the End’.
Formed by Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative, Silvertomb), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down), Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Silvertomb), and Todd Strange (Crowbar, Down), the project dives headfirst into grief and gravity, where doom, psychedelia, and emotional heaviness all meet.
‘In the End’ feels like an elegy. Thick with atmosphere and carried by hypnotic guitar work, it meditates on mortality without losing its melodic core. “‘In The End’ is a great example of what we want Sun Don’t Shine to sound like,” Windstein shared. “It’s got dynamics, melody and a bit of heaviness to it.”

That tone is mirrored by Corpse Paint Records founder Andrew Spaulding, who added: “‘In the End’ was one of those melodies that stayed with me from the moment it was written. It carried a different weight—slower, more reflective—but the lyrics cut deep in a way that immediately made me think about the people we’ve lost along the way. For us, that includes giants who shaped this band’s very DNA: Peter Steele, Dimebag Darrell, and most recently, Ace Frehley.”
Coming Down EP
While full details for Birth to Death are still under wraps, the album is set to drop via Corpse Paint Records in 2026. A pre-order bundle for ‘In the End’, including a CD copy, merch, and keychains is already available.
This follows the band’s debut Coming Down EP, released earlier this year.
