There’s theatrical and then there’s Motionless In White, the Pennsylvanian darkwave metal mainstays. They’ve been blending horror aesthetics with industrial tinged heaviness for nearly two decades. This September, they’ll descend on Louder Than Life 2025 with black eyeliner, breakdowns and blood pumping precision.
Led by the ever composed and unnervingly articulate Chris Motionless, the band has carved out a fiercely loyal following by refusing to play it safe. Their live shows straddle chaos and control, flashing strobes, throat ripping vocals and the kind of goth metal theatre that actually hits. It’s not just a costume party, it’s more like catharsis with claws.
Their latest record Scoring the End of the World saw Motionless stretch into bigger, bolder territory featuring collabs with everyone from Knocked Loose’s Bryan Garris to composer Mick Gordon. Tracks like ‘Slaughterhouse’ (below) and ‘Cyberhex’ hit just as hard live as they do in the studio. Cold, mechanised and designed to obliterate pit walls.

At Louder Than Life, they’re sharing the stage with some absolute juggernauts, but Motionless In White have always thrived in the fringes. They bring a different flavour to the lineup: more Nine Inch Nails than nu-metal, more horrorcore than hard rock. When the lights go red and the guitars hit full tilt though, they stand toe to toe with anyone.
Whether you’ve been following since Creatures or just caught wind of their TikTok resurgence, Motionless In White are a must watch this year. Expect face paint, fury and a set list built to haunt the senses.
