Hayley Williams Delivers A Soul Stirring ‘True Believer’ On Fallon

Hayley Williams took The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to church, her way. Performing ‘True Believer’ from her new album Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, the Paramore frontwoman turned late night television into a cathartic statement on identity, history, and the American South’s uneasy soul.

Backed by a small orchestra, Williams’ voice soared over strings and brass, raw but graceful, carrying lyrics that cut deep into the gentrification of Nashville and the South’s lingering ghosts. Then came the closer, performing with a haunting outro of Nina Simone’s ‘Strange Fruit’, a song that still chills the bones decades after its release. It wasn’t just a stylistic choice, it was a statement. Williams already nods to the track in ‘True Believer’s’ pre chorus, but this live moment made her intent inescapable.

A Cross Era Collaboration

The performance followed Williams’ recent collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Jay Som on Belong, their track ‘Past Lives’ marks Som’s first ever guest feature, and she couldn’t be prouder of who she shared it with.

“It’s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of ‘Float.’ I still can’t believe it happened,” Som said. “She’s one of the kindest artists out there, and she graciously accepts and uplifts the people around her. We’re all so lucky to witness her talent and live on the same timeline as her.”
