Gorillaz have dropped ‘The God of Lying’, featuring IDLES, from their upcoming album The Mountain. The track blends dub energy with sharp social commentary and features performances recorded in London, Devon, and Mumbai.
Written by Damon Albarn and Joe Talbot, the song was recorded between London, Devon, and Mumbai, featuring Ajay Prasanna on bansuri and Viraj Acharya on percussion. Talbot’s unmistakable presence gives the track a raw, off kilter pulse, his half snarled, dub style vocal layering questions and unease over a hypnotic groove. It’s a perfect fit for an album that’s already shaping up to be one of Gorillaz’s most experimental and globally connected projects yet.
“Can I tell you a secret?” says Gorillaz frontman 2D. “Doubt is very tiring but questioning things is really good for you.”
