Freddy Vs Jason Soundtrack Finally Gets A Vinyl Release

Share

Heavy metal and horror go hand in hand, in 2003, Freddy vs Jason proved it with a soundtrack that hit just as hard as the slashers on screen. Now, for the first time, that brutal collection of nu metal and death growls is getting the wax treatment.

Real Gone Music will unleash the first ever vinyl pressing of the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack on October 10. Pressed across two records of red smoke vinyl and tucked inside a gatefold jacket, it’s limited to just 1,500 copies.

The lineup reads like a who’s who of early 2000s heavy hitters. Slipknot, Type O Negative, Lamb of God, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Sevendust, Chimaira, Devildriver, In Flames – the list swings between every extreme. Fourteen of the 23 tracks were previously unreleased when the soundtrack first dropped, cementing its reputation as more than a cash in tie in.

Soundtrack Highlights

Ill Niño’s ‘How Can I Live’ opened the album with a nu metal punch in the teeth.

Slipknot unearthed a ’97 demo of ‘Snap’ – raw, frantic and far from radio polished.

Type O Negative’s tongue in cheek goth dirge ‘(We Were) Electrocute’ slid in with irony only Peter Steele could deliver.

Lamb of God’s ‘11th Hour’ roared with the precision of a band just entering their prime. Have a listen to the remixed and remastered version below:

On top of all of this, you still have Seether, Mushroomhead, Powerman 5000, and Mike Patton lending his pipes to Sepultura’s ‘The Waste’.

The Movie

The film itself, directed by Ronny Yu (Bride of Chucky) gave Robert Englund his final outing as Freddy Krueger and pitted him against Ken Kirzinger’s Jason Voorhees. Critics were split, but fans turned out in droves, making it the most successful film in either franchise.

Now, two decades later, the soundtrack that bled nu-metal into the mainstream is finally being immortalised on vinyl. Horror and heavy music have always shared the same DNA – loud, ugly, cathartic and this pressing feels long overdue.
