Foo Fighters Announce New Single ‘Asking For A Friend’ For October 23 Release

Share

Rock titans Foo Fighters are back with a new single ‘Asking For A Friend’ dropping October 23, the artwork hints at new drummer Ilan Rubin involvement and fans are buzzing.

The mighty Foo Fighters are primed to unleash a brand-new single, ‘Asking For A Friend’, with the full track set to drop tomorrow (October 23) at 3 pm BST / 10 am EDT / 7 am PDT.

A snippet of the track was teased last week via social media, captioned “About to take flight…”. Today, the band teased another audio clip that sounds strikingly like the Foos we know, big guitars, driving rhythm, that unmistakable roar from Dave Grohl.

Does Ilan Rubin feature?

What’s particularly interesting, the single’s artwork features live photos of all six members, including the recently recruited Ilan Rubin, which naturally raises the question, is Ruben playing drums on this track? The band haven’t confirmed.

This marks their first major drop since the acclaimed 2023 album But Here We Are , a record we at Blunt highly rated and has been described as one that “prises beauty from unimaginable suffering”. The Foos have been navigating heavy emotional terrain, the loss of long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins, the passing of Dave’s mother Virginia, and the challenge of evolving while staying true to their unmistakable sound.

A Turning Point

So yes, ‘Asking For A Friend’ might just be a turning point moment, if the tease is anything to go by, the band are still wielding that raw energy and rock-muscle we crave, but there’s a hint of something new on the horizon. Will it be a standalone single or a flag for a full album? Time will tell!

Pre save links are live, the clock is ticking. Tomorrow morning for those of us West Coast, it’s wake up time. The Foos are back, and we’re watching.
