Sony’s latest State of Play landed this week, dropping a string of trailers that reminded gamers why the PlayStation ecosystem still knows how to steal a headline.
The biggest news was the long awaited reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games. Fans didn’t get a fresh Spider Man update, but the claws came out in spectacular fashion, complete with confirmation that Australian actor Liam McIntyre will voice the gruff mutant. Judging by the bloody, cinematic first look, this one’s shaping up to be every bit as brutal as fans hoped.
Saros and the unexpected highlights
Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind Returnal, showed off extended gameplay from their new sci-fi epic Saros. Fast paced combat, sleek visuals and a sense of scale that feels distinctly next gen make it one to watch heading into 2026.
Elsewhere, the showcase lined up a string of surprises, from Battlefield 6’s campaign reveal to a remaster of Deus Ex, and the out of nowhere Halloween: The Game:
Even Gran Turismo 7 got in on the action with a SPEC III upgrade announcement.

Not quite Bloodborne 2, but still plenty to chew on
While the long shot dream of a Bloodborne sequel didn’t come true, Sony stacked the show with enough announcements to keep the hype engines running. Between Wolverine’s big debut, Saros stepping into the spotlight, and a mix of nostalgia driven remasters and experimental new IPs, September’s State of Play gave PlayStation players plenty to argue about until the next showcase.
