‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Swings Hard With Adam Sandler And The Return Of Shooter McGavin

Share

Break out the beer and buckle in, Happy Gilmore 2 is officially on its way, and the just dropped trailer confirms what fans were dying to hear, Shooter McGavin is back.

After nearly 30 years, Adam Sandler is returning as the rage fuelled golfer who made hockey sticks a legitimate part of a golf bag. The sequel which is here July 25 (via Netflix) reunites Happy with his longtime nemesis, played once again by the gloriously smug Christopher McDonald. For those wondering, yes, he’s still a massive d**k.

In the trailer, we see an older, more grizzled Happy reluctantly pulled back into the game to mentor a chaotic new prodigy. But the real kicker? Shooter McGavin, now a washed up commentator, is still clinging to what’s left of his legacy and it doesn’t take much to drag him back into the spotlight for one last ego fuelled showdown.

Quick flashes show Shooter teeing off in slow motion, sunglasses on, smirk locked in. It’s the rivalry we never knew we still needed, and it looks like this time, it might actually get violent.

Also spotted in the trailer is a blink and you’ll miss it cameo from Ben Stiller, reprising his sadistic nursing home orderly from Happy Gilmore and Hubie Halloween. It’s the kind of chaotic crossover energy that screams Sandler at full tilt.

While Sandler’s Netflix era has been hit or miss, Happy Gilmore 2 looks like it’s leaning into the unhinged brilliance that made the original a cult classic. Trash talk, broken clubs, and a middle finger to golf’s uptight image!

Whether it’s your first time hearing the name Shooter McGavin or you’ve had his autograph burned into your memory since ’96, this sequel’s shaping up to be a riot.
