Kublai Khan TX don’t waste time dressing things up. The Texan four piece have built their reputation on bone crushing breakdowns, blunt force riffs, and lyrics that cut right to the nerve. When they step onstage at When We Were Young 2025, expect something closer to a demolition than a performance.
Formed in Sherman, Texas back in 2009, Kublai Khan TX have always carried themselves like the outliers of the hardcore world. No polish or posturing, just a suffocating heaviness that makes rooms cave in! They’ve been at it for well over a decade, with absolutely no signs of taking the foot off of the accelerator or slowing down anytime soon.
Their latest record Exhibition of Prowess is a perfect example, featuring hostile grooves, growls like rusted barbed wire, and enough low end to rattle the venue foundations. Beneath the weight though, there’s intention. They don’t shy away from what hurts, their songs deal in social decay, personal demons, and ugly truths.

Having Kublai Khan TX at the festival is a sound reminder that hardcore, at its most savage, can stand shoulder to shoulder with the biggest alt names going around. For the kids in the crowd, it may just be an initiation. For the veterans, it’s a reminder of why they fell in love with heavy music in the first place!
