Pop-punk legends Blink 182 tore through a crowd pleasing set of classics like ‘The Rock Show’, ‘All the Small Things’ and ‘Dammit’, here’s our Blunt take on the show’s energy, timing and raw impact.
When Blink 182 hit the stage, the palpable pulse of pop-punk nostalgia met full on rock band swagger, from the moment the tape intro faded and the crowd roared, the band locked in a set that was equal parts blast from the past and proof they still deliver with force.
They launched into ‘The Rock Show’, followed swiftly by ‘First Date’ and ‘Josie’, a triple punch of early era hits that registered immediately. The energy didn’t let up, ‘Anthem Part Two’, ‘Online Songs’ and ‘M+M’s’ kept the momentum tight, while the new cut ‘F*** FACE’ slammed in to shake things up. Deep tracks like ‘Dumpweed’, ‘Feeling This’ and ‘Down’ reminded die hard fans the band haven’t forgotten their roots.
Mid way through, they went full tilt with ‘TURPENTINE’ and ‘CAN’T GO BACK’, signalling they’re still evolving, not just rewinding. ‘Wishing Well’ and ‘Stay Together for the Kids’ brought emotional weight, before the roller coaster ride of ‘Roller Coaster’, ‘DANCE WITH ME’ and ‘I Miss You’. The crowd sang every line, the nostalgia factor was at maximum voltage.
The finale kicked in with ‘WHAT’S MY AGE AGAIN?’, ‘All the Small Things’ and ‘Dammit’. On ‘Dammit’ they tagged a sly nod to No Scrubs by TLC, because of course they did, because they’re Blink and they know the crowd digs the joke and the surprise.
