Thomas Nicholas doesn’t do quiet years. The ‘American Pie’ star/alt-rock frontman is back on the road for another run of his chaotic ‘American Pie – Emo Night’ shows!
We caught up with Thomas prior to his Australian tour, he let us know how amazing it was to have his 13 year old son play drums with him at a recent gig. ‘He’s grown up around music, but seeing him jump into it? That hit differently.’
We ask Thomas if his life feels like ‘Groundhog Day, but awesome’? The man literally does not stop! He’s heading back on the US tour circuit quicker than fans expected. Currently in Australia, he’s back stateside this Friday July 25th in San Diego, riding the nostalgia wave and cranking out his own material.
Thomas Nicholas Interview 2025
‘The “Emo Night” concept? Not mine originally,’ he laughs. ‘But it made total sense. Merging my music with the American Pie legacy, it’s the best of both worlds. It’s not just a party. It’s part performance, part therapy session, drenched in 2000s nostalgia.’
Over two decades since ‘American Pie’ exploded into pop culture, Nicholas lets us know about copping the occasional movie quote in the street. But he’s more focused on the next record. His latest album, ‘We’re Going To Be OK’, recently turned one (May 17), and he teases more music ‘soon-ish.’
As for the ultimate soundtrack debate? ‘It’s gotta be Blink 182. No disrespect to My Chemical Romance but those pop-punk roots run deep.’ Blink did pop up on the American Pie movie after all, and you know we have to discuss this as well as brushing soldiers with Mark Hoppus!
Nicholas closes out by discussing his upcoming US run, including an appearance at San Diego Comic Con and teases an upcoming comic book feature!
