Sainthood Reps Talk Reunion Energy, Dream Line-Ups And New Album Dull Bliss

Share

Long Island’s Sainthood Reps are back in the spotlight with Dull Bliss, their first full-length in years, and we caught up with bassist Jani Zubkovs and guitarist Derrick Sherman ahead of its release this Friday, September 26.

The pair were a lot of fun to talk to and walked us through the band’s return after the COVID pause, when regrouping felt less like picking up where they left off and more like opening a new chapter. The chemistry, seemingly only sharpening with time.

Balancing Shoegaze and Grunge

Fans have always debated whether Sainthood Reps lean more toward shoegaze or grunge. For Zubkovs and Sherman, the charm is in refusing to pick sides. That in between space is exactly where Dull Bliss thrives, swelling between ethereal haze and jagged distortion.

Backstage essentials and fan encounters

Our chat turned a little more on the playful side as they shared stories about pre-show rituals, wild fan encounters, and the staples they can’t live without while on the road. It’s a reminder that despite the intensity of their music, the band carry an easy going energy offstage.

They also dished on the first bands they ever saw live, dream openers for a Sainthood Reps bill, and the one new track they’re most amped to perform. Spoiler – get ready for Dull Bliss to hit even harder in a live setting.

Life beyond the stage

Outside music, both members are grounded in day to day passions and perspectives that bleed back into their song writing. It’s that balance, intensity onstage, humanity off it that keeps their art resonant two decades into their career.

With Dull Bliss set to arrive via Smartpunk Records, Sainthood Reps are proving their blend of shoegaze haze and grunge grit isn’t just nostalgia fodder, it’s a sound that feels urgent right now.
