Pinkshift On ‘Earthkeeper’: Heavy Sounds, Cosmic Themes, And A Call To Give A Fk**

Pinkshift aren’t interested in coloring inside the lines and their new album Earthkeeper is proof. Out August 29 via Hopeless Records, it’s a record that feels massive in both sound and scope, pushing the Baltimore trio far beyond any lingering “pop-punk” tag.

Frontperson Ashrita Kumar says the title came from a psychedelic moment among California’s redwoods, an experience that cracked open a bigger vision. Earthkeeper isn’t just a record about personal loss and collapse, but about belonging on a cosmic scale. “I want it to make people give a f**k,” Ashrita explains, whether that’s about themselves, their communities, or the planet burning around them.

Evolving

Musically, Earthkeeper hits harder than anything Pinkshift have done before. Guitarist Paul Vallejo points to influences like Loathe and Knocked Loose, heavier textures that gave the band room to explore new extremes. Drummer Myron Houngbedji leaned into touring’s lessons, chasing rhythms that feel urgent, physical, and alive.

Pinkshift ‘Vacant’ Video

It’s not all weight and fury though, tracks like ‘Vacant’ (below) carry a cheeky, late night energy, a burst of joy that undercuts the record’s darker edges. Even with an expanded live crew, including touring members Michael and Kirby, who appear in the ‘Vacant’ video, the band’s chemistry feels tight, instinctive, and collective.
