Nu-metal icons Ill Niño are deep in their ‘Taste Of Armageddon’ US tour, tearing through July alongside Powerman 5000, (HED) P.E., Priest and The Great Alone. Chatting with us, drummer and founding force Dave Chavarri calls this run “the most fired up we’ve been in years”.
This interview was conducted just a little bit before the announcement of Tommy Roulette III as the bands new vocalist, Dave didn’t shy away from discussing their previous frontmen either. Both Cristian Machado (Now with Lions At The Gate) and Marcos Leal are discussed and his thoughts on the situation may just surprise you.
With a refreshed line up and sharper than ever energy, Ill Niño are embracing both their roots and their future. “People think we’re stuck in 2001, but this version of Ill Niño is heavier, tighter and ready to evolve,” Chavarri tells us. Fans hitting shows can expect a brutal mix of ‘Revolution Revolución’ classics and explosive new material. “It’s not about resting on the past. We’re here to show what Ill Niño 2025 sounds like.”

For Chavarri, what’s kept the band alive through lineup shifts, label chaos and a changing industry? “The fans. Straight up, they’re why we’re still out here.”
He admits the early days were wild, but foundational: “Back then, it was chaos. Vans breaking down, sleeping on floors, but that hunger? It never left.”
Life outside music? Don’t count on it. Between the band, producing and side project Terror Universal (is there new material coming?), Chavarri’s schedule is chaos. “But that’s how I like it.”
