Andy LaPlegua On CMBCRST And What The Future Holds

Share

Two decades in, Andy LaPlegua shows no sign of softening the edges of Combichrist. Across ten albums, the band has twisted aggrotech, industrial, and even metalcore into something uniquely volatile. Their most recent release, CMBCRST, feels like a sonic uppercut, dense, hostile, and sharpened by years of trial and reinvention.

Check out the interview below:

The record doesn’t stem from a single moment of anger but from the grind of living in constant tension. That pressure translates into every track, with songs like ‘Not My Enemy’ carrying the weight of defiance while still balancing the band’s signature intensity with electronic menace. Even after so many records, LaPlegua keeps a ruthless standard: songs either hit with force or they don’t make it past the cutting floor.

What separates Combichrist from their peers is the interplay between havoc and precision. On stage, the band walks a razor line between orchestrated destruction and unfiltered release. It’s the unpredictability that keeps crowds locked in, never quite knowing if LaPlegua is conducting the storm or simply letting it swallow him whole. That volatility has made Combichrist one of the most ferocious live acts in heavy music.

Aggression has always been at the core of the project, but it’s not just about rage. For LaPlegua, it’s as much about release and survival as it is about spectacle. The music doubles as catharsis in the writing process and theatre in the live setting, where therapy and performance bleed together in real time.

Looking ahead, LaPlegua hints at ongoing solo work while leaving the future of Combichrist deliberately open ended. The one certainty is that whatever form the project takes, it won’t lose its edge. Longevity hasn’t dulled its brutality, it’s only distilled it.

Boogie Fried 3

Beyond the music, LaPlegua remains deeply connected to underground culture. This October, he’ll be part of Boogie Fried 3, a three day event in Ocoee, Tennessee, celebrating vans, hot rods, live music, mini bike races, and custom culture. Primitive camping, a show n shine, and even a raffle keep it grounded in true DIY spirit.

The BUS Bar & Grill, Ocoee, TN: October 3–5, 2025. All of the details here!
