Trivium have confirmed a major shift behind the kit. Drummer Alex Bent has exited the band after nine years, with Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman stepping in for Aftershock (Friday 3 October, Sacramento) and the remainder of Trivium’s fall 2025 North American tour with Jinjer and Heriot.
Bent announced his departure just hours before Trivium’s Aftershock slot. “I am beyond grateful for the incredible past 9 years with @triviumband —filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me.”
He added: “I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support. While this chapter has come to a close, this is by no means the end of my path as a musician. I’m excited for this new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to create, perform, and share music in new ways. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world.”
Frontman Matt Heafy replied, “Wishing you and your family nothing but the best,” while the band’s channels posted, “Trivium wishes @alexbentdrums success on his future endeavours as he exits the band.” The tone from both sides reads respectful and final, which tracks with Bent’s note about continuing his career elsewhere.
Trivium welcomes Greyson Nekrutman
For the shows ahead, Trivium wrote: “Trivium welcomes @greyson_nekrutman on the drums. Catch him at @aftershockfestival & on our Fall Tour with @jinjer_official & @heriotmetal,” to which Nekrutman answered, “Let’s go,” and Heafy added thanks to Sepultura. Nekrutman has been Sepultura’s drummer since early 2024 and remains active with them as the band’s farewell cycle rolls on.
If you were at Aftershock, you saw Trivium pivot in real time and still hit like a freight train, for the rest of the run, expect the set to lean on precision and power rather than flash. Nekrutman’s résumé is stacked, and his recent stretch with Sepultura has been nothing short of ferocious. Meanwhile, Trivium’s fall dates with Jinjer and Heriot continue as planned.
