Australia’s Thornhill have unveiled a new single and video, Mercia, just as they step onto some of the biggest stages of their career. The band are serving as direct support for Sleep Token’s completely sold out Even in Arcadia U.S. arena tour, which kicked off in Atlanta recently.
Equal parts searing and sorrowful, Mercia builds on the emotional grit of Thornhill’s most recent album BODIES while standing tall as its own statement. The track leans into fragility and devastation, balancing atmosphere with weight. Lyrically, it’s Thornhill at their most exposed.
“Mercia is a song about loving someone lost in their own abyss,” says vocalist Jacob Charlton. “It speaks to the ache of giving everything—warmth, devotion, even the hope of carrying their pain—only to be met with silence and defences. At its heart, it’s about the futility of trying to heal what resists healing, and how that struggle leaves you altered, hardened, and haunted.”
The single arrives with a cinematic short film (above), co-directed by Charlton and Jon Pisani, underscoring Thornhill’s ongoing commitment to pushing their art beyond the music itself.

It’s another step forward for a band whose momentum shows no signs of slowing. BODIES, released in April via UNFD, debuted at Number 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart, cracked multiple Billboard rankings in the U.S., and has since pulled more than 107 million streams. Thornhill’s rise in North America has been particularly striking, this arena run with Sleep Token puts them in front of more than 200,000 fans across 17 sold out dates.
Between the devastating new single, a globally resonant full length, and a growing U.S. following, Thornhill have arrived at a new height. Mercia may be about sinking under the weight of love, but for Thornhill, it’s another leap upward.
