Veteran metal outfit SOULFLY drop the savage video for ‘No Pain = No Power’ from their thirteenth album CHAMA, a war cry from Max Cavalera and guests Dino Cazares, Ben Cook and Gabe Franco.
If you thought SOULFLY were mellowing with time, think again. The Phoenix-area juggernaut fronted by Max Cavalera has dropped the video for ‘No Pain = No Power’, a brutal, ritualised battle cry that sits mid point on their thirteenth album CHAMA. The track features guest vocals from Gabe Franco (Unto Others) and Ben Cook (No Warning) alongside shredding guitar work by Dino Cazares of Fear Factory fame.
In the accompanying video (below) directed by Zyon and edited by Cody Longhere, the band bring the track’s theme to life with kinetic imagery of shadowy masks, fire lit ritual settings and bare knuckle combative visuals. Max says: “To me this is the ultimate guest song and video. Nikolas Motta, Biaggio, Dino, Igor A, Bootsie, Gabe, and Ben made this a collective masterpiece! Zyon took this album and video to the next level. It’s the first time he wrote a script and directed a music video. Mixing UFC and Metal will hopefully inspire a whole new generation of fans! Chama!!”
Soulfly ‘No Pain = No Power’ video
Recorded at Platinum Underground Studio in Mesa, Arizona, CHAMA was produced by Max’s son Zyon Cavalera and Arthur Rizk. It sees the band embracing a tribal-fuelled fury that still carries the groove and hardcore bite that loyal listeners expect.
Zyon adds: “It feels like just yesterday watching UFC fights with my family talking about how cool it would be to connect with a fighter. Then we saw Pereira using ‘Itsari’ and were hooked ever since. ‘No Pain = No Power’ goes to show your dreams are not so far away.”
