Soulfly Drop ‘Nihilist’ Video Featuring Todd Jones As ‘Chama’ Release Nears

Share

Soulfly have released another slab of venom from their upcoming album Chama, out October 24 via Nuclear Blast. The new single ‘Nihilist’ arrives with a video shot in Bulgaria by director Costin Chioreanu, and features a blistering guest spot from Todd Jones of Nails.

The track is a family affair, too, with Zyon Cavalera stepping further into the producer role, shaping the sound alongside Arthur Rizk. Bass comes from Igor Amadeus Cavalera, while Mike De Leon takes up guitar duties. It’s a record anchored in the band’s tribal DNA but sharpened with a modern edge.

Max Cavalera explained the inspiration behind ‘Nihilist’, drawing on one of his death metal heroes:

“My lyrics are inspired by LG of Entombed and Nihilist. He left this earth in 2021 and he was always a big influence on me. This is one of the heaviest songs on the record… Todd Jones is the special guest on the song, delivering the hardest line on the record. ‘I don’t believe in anything!’”

Guitarist Mike De Leon added:

“From the depths of the deepest tribes, we bring you the new Soulfly. This being my first official video ever with the guys, is a complete honor. Enjoy it, crank it up and start the living room mosh pits!”

Max Cavalera Interview

We caught up with Max recently to discuss how Chama stands alongside the Cavalera brothers’ ‘Chaos A.D.’ live run. Max told us the mission is to honour the past while pushing forward, keep the tempos vicious, flip between eras, and let the crowd do the rest. That same mindset bleeds into Chama, first teased with ‘Storm the Gates’, and now hammered home with ‘Nihilist’.

With appearances from Todd Jones and Dino Cazares (Fear Factory), Chama is shaping up to be Soulfly’s most collaborative record in years.
