Slash Confirms Guns N’ Roses Are Readying A New Album: “Everybody Is Thinking About It”

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has hinted that the band’s next album is finally in motion, though fans shouldn’t hold their breath just yet.

In a new chat with Guitar World, Slash revealed that the band has amassed a lot of material, but actually getting it over the finish line is another story.

‘There’s so much material at this point – it’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and f**king get into it,’ he said. ‘But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, “We’re going to take this time, and we’re going to do this.” Every time we’ve done that, it falls apart.’

According to Slash, the band’s creative spark comes and goes unpredictably. ‘It just spontaneously happens through some sort of inspiration that triggers it. And the next thing you know, it’s off and running,’ he explained.

Still, optimism remains. ‘So it’s coming. I know it’s coming because everybody is thinking about it. It’ll just happen when it happens.’

It’s not the first time we’ve heard whispers of new Guns N’ Roses music, back in 2019, bassist Duff McKagan told Trunk Nation that the band was sitting on fresh material, unsure how to release it in the modern era. ‘There’s new material. I don’t know how we’re gonna put it out. … Do you put out a record? Do you just keep putting out singles?’

Their most recent output came in 2022 with the four-track Hard Skool EP, a low key release that slipped under many fans’ radars, featuring the title track, Absurd, and live cuts of Don’t Cry and You’re Crazy.

If this next album comes together, it’ll be the first full length since 2008’s Chinese Democracy, and the first proper reunion album featuring Slash, Duff, and Axl since Use Your Illusion II.
