Rise Against Unleash Ricochet, Their Most Urgent Record In Years

Chicago’s punk heavyweights Rise Against have returned swinging with Ricochet, their first album in four years and easily one of their most urgent yet. Out now via Loma Vista Recordings, the 12-track collection hones in on the band’s defining strength: marrying blistering punk rock with a conscience that refuses to go quiet.

The title track dropped alongside a furious performance video, framing frontman Tim McIlrath’s vision of people dancing while bombs fall overhead. It’s a bleak metaphor for a world numbed by endless crises, but also a reminder that detachment carries weight, every choice, every silence ricochets outward.

Produced by Catherine Marks (Boygenius, St. Vincent) and mixed by Alan Moulder (Paramore, Nine Inch Nails), the album pushes Rise Against into sharper, darker territory without sacrificing their melodic punch. Songs like ‘Black Crown’ and ‘State of Emergency’ wrestle with apocalyptic politics and algorithm-fuelled havoc, while ‘Soldier’ and ‘Sink Like a Stone’ dig into blind allegiance and mental health. Elsewhere, ‘Prizefighter’ and ‘I Want It All’ serve as rallying cries, proof that nearly three decades in, Rise Against still know how to write anthems that land like fists.

Tim McIlrath Interview

When we spoke to McIlrath earlier last month, he reflected on how Ricochet ties back to their 2001 debut The Unraveling while capturing the urgency of now. “That “sensible band” label still hangs around their neck, but McIlrath wears it with a shrug. Ricochet proves sense and fury aren’t opposites, they’re survival tools. With the record already sparking rave reviews and the band lining up arena dates across the US, Rise Against are reminding everyone why they’ve been the steady voice of punk resistance for nearly 30 years.
