For the second time in less than a month, Mudvayne have dropped fresh music, a sentence fans weren’t sure they’d ever read again. Today the band unveiled their new single ‘Sticks and Stones’ via visualiser, following hot on the heels of last month’s ‘Hurt People Hurt People’, their first release in 16 years.
Where ‘Hurt People Hurt People’ was a primal scream of a comeback, ‘Sticks and Stones’ takes a more measured approach. It builds from simmering tension into one of the band’s heaviest breakdowns in years, showing off their knack for dynamics. Frontman Chad Gray uses the track to dismantle the old nursery rhyme: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” In his words, “I couldn’t disagree more… blood doesn’t wash out; it stains.”

Vinyl Anyone?
The single arrives with a vinyl announcement too. Mudvayne are issuing a double A-side 7-inch featuring both tracks, available in a standard pressing and a signed, limited to 500 variant through their official store. Another exclusive variant will drop via Revolver, alongside a new merch capsule.

Mudvayne 25th Anniversary Tour Dates
It all sets the stage for the band’s L.D. 50 25th Anniversary Tour, which kicks off tonight in Dubuque, Iowa and runs through October 26. Supported by Static-X with Vended opening, the run celebrates the 2000 debut album that certified Gold, helped define the nu-metal era, and cemented Mudvayne as one of the scene’s most distinctive players.
