Los Angeles outfit Militarie Gun have dropped a new single and video, ‘Throw Me Away,’ as they build toward their upcoming album God Save The Gun, out October 17 via Loma Vista Recordings.
The song, described by frontman Ian Shelton as a dive into the valleys of self doubt, blends raw vulnerability with the band’s knack for hook heavy, melodic hardcore. Directed by Shelton himself, the performance video captures the song’s intensity while putting his lyrics front and center.
“‘Throw Me Away’ is about the feeling of only being valued when you’re visible or useful and the desperate need to hold onto that,” Shelton explained. “What someone loves about you one day might be cited as a reason they hate you now. It’s the desire for external validation and also the deep resentment of it.”

Brutally Honest
The single follows ‘B A D I D E A’ (below) which premiered earlier this year and signalled the beginning of the God Save The Gun era. Shelton spoke with Rolling Stone about the album’s themes, admitting that the record is a brutally honest document of being at your lowest point despite outward success. He ties that narrative to his own struggles with addiction, flipping from observer to participant after years of writing about others.
Despite the heavy subject matter, Militarie Gun sound sharper than ever, Shelton is joined by guitarists William Acuña and Kevin Kiley, bassist Waylon Trim, and drummer David Stalsworth. The line-up solidified during the relentless touring cycle for their 2023 debut Life Under The Gun, a record praised by Pitchfork, NME, and Kerrang! for pushing hardcore’s boundaries.
On God Save The Gun, the band teamed with producer Riley MacIntyre (Adele, Arlo Parks, The Kills), while also collaborating with Phillip Odom, James Goodson of Dazy, and Nick Panella of MSPAINT. The result is a collection of songs that stretch Militarie Gun’s melodic sensibilities while staying anchored in punk grit.
