Megadeth have dropped the first taste of what will be their last ever studio album, a record set to land in 2026, under Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft label in partnership with Frontiers’ BLKIIBLK imprint. The track ‘Tipping Point’, drops next Friday October 3, has been teased in a brief 30 second clip and while it’s only a fragment, it hints at the intensity fans have come to expect from thrash metal’s architects.
The album marks the beginning of the end for Megadeth, who will bow out with a global farewell tour. Mustaine, never one to mince words, was upfront about the weight of the decision when announcing the band’s final chapter:
“There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now… The hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye… This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years.”
He added that Megadeth’s exit will be a celebration of their impact:
“We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it’s played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.”

A Legacy Forged in Fire
Formed in 1983 after Mustaine’s infamous ejection from Metallica, Megadeth went on to shape thrash metal with ‘Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!’ (1985) and the game-changing ‘Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying?’ (1986). Classics like ‘Rust in Peace’ (1990) and ‘Countdown to Extinction’ (1992) cemented their status as one of the Big Four.
Despite turbulence, line-up shake ups, substance battles, and Mustaine’s near career ending arm injury, the band endured, winning a Grammy with 2016’s ‘Dystopia’. Now, with ‘Tipping Point’, Megadeth are staring down their final bow.
