Lamb of God have come storming back with ‘Sepsis’, a grimy, sludge inspired anthem that harks back to their roots in Richmond, Virginia. The track is the band’s first non collaborative release since 2022 and lands right on the group’s 25th anniversary, making its arrival feel like a deliberate throwback to where it all began.
Guitarist Mark Morton explained that the song was designed to carry both weight and nostalgia. “It’s a celebration of the very underground local bands here in Richmond that we really admired when we were just forming Burn The Priest,” he said, citing cult names like Breadwinner, Sliang Laos, and Ladyfinger. “Though they never got widespread attention outside of Richmond, those were the bands we listened to all the time… The song references that stuff in a way that’s a direct line to where we were coming from when we were in the basement writing our earliest material together.”
Lamb of God ‘Sepsis” video
Produced once again by longtime collaborator Josh Wilbur, ‘Sepsis’ arrives alongside a grainy, lo-fi performance video directed by Glanfranco Svagelj. The visuals only add to the track’s basement show grit, matching the swampy tone and suffocating atmosphere of the music itself.

The release also comes on the heels of a busy year for Lamb of God, they marked their milestone anniversary with the massive Back To The Beginning concert, an event that pulled in an eye watering $190 million for charity. They also flexed their versatility with a bruising cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘Children of the Grave’, further cementing their status as masters of heavy reinterpretation.
Since their last album Omens in 2022, the band have spent time collaborating with everyone from industrial outfit HEALTH to gothic icons Lacuna Coil. Whether ‘Sepsis’ is simply a one off or the first taste of a larger record, one thing’s certain, Lamb of God still know exactly how to deliver the kind of heaviness that makes the underground feel alive.
