Jack White has publicly torn into Tennessee congressman Tim Burchett after Burchett shared an AI generated video of the musician on social media, falsely attributing inflammatory political commentary to him and taking a personal swipe in the process.
The manipulated clip featured a fake version of White, dressed to resemble his appearance at his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction earlier this year, delivering the fabricated line:
“Don’t even think about listening to my music, you fascist.”
Burchett compounded the post with his own caption, writing:
“That cute little girl from the Addams Family got really ugly and angry.”
The video played into a long standing and repeatedly debunked claim that White bans Donald Trump supporters from attending his shows, something the Detroit born musician has publicly denied on multiple occasions.
White responded directly on Instagram, calling out both the misinformation and what he described as the embarrassing conduct of an elected official amplifying AI generated falsehoods without verification.
“Can you believe that a U.S. congressman, that’s right, a CONGRESSMAN (from my state no less), a once hallowed and respected position in our society, would repost an AI generated video, containing a false comment that I never said and refuted (without researching that I might add) and like a 10 year old on a playground, add to it attempted insults to my physical appearance?” White wrote. “What kind of joke are we all living in now?”
White escalated his criticism by targeting Burchett’s political alignment and what he sees as a broader erosion of democratic responsibility.
“The great state of Tennessee deserves better Mr. Burchett but you and your cult are too dug in and blinded to even realize it,” he continued. “Holding a bible in one hand and a flag in the other while you stomp out our democracy day by day in the service of one man’s ego so that he can use taxpayer money to receive his fake peace prize and tear down the White House brick by brick. Embarrassing.”
White has long been vocal in his opposition to Donald Trump, previously calling the former president a “grifter” and a “loser,” while also condemning the unauthorized use of artists’ music at political events.
This latest exchange adds to White’s history of refusing to stay silent when politics, misinformation, and art collide.
As AI generated content continues to blur lines between reality and fabrication, White’s response highlights growing concerns around how easily false narratives can be amplified by those in positions of power.
