DEFTONES Tease ‘Private Music’ Drop With Cryptic London Message

Share

Deftones new music teaser? The rumour mill is officially in overdrive! At their Crystal Palace Park gig in London last night (June 29), the alt metal trailblazers dropped a cryptic message on the big screens before and after their set. Two words, ‘private music’ and a timestamp etched in Roman numerals: X.VII.MMXXV. The phrase “distributed by deftones, all rights reserved” sealed the message in minimalist flair.

Whether that date translates to July 10, 2025 or October 7, 2025 depends on your flavour of calendar decoding, but either way, something’s coming. Knowing Deftones, you can be assured it won’t be half measured.

The band hasn’t officially confirmed new material, but this latest stunt lines up with long running hints. Back in 2023, guitarist Stephen Carpenter revealed they were back in the lab with producer Nick Raskulinecz, the same architect behind ‘Diamond Eyes’ and ‘Koi No Yokan’. Carpenter later said the new stuff “sounds like a continuation of Ohms and Koi,” which, frankly, is the kind of sonic territory fans have been fiending for.

Deftones are still knee deep in their European tour, set to close out July 6 in Finland at Ruisrock. After that, they’ll jump across the pond for a North American headline run starting August 22 in Vancouver. Support varies across the run, with IDLES, Phantogram and Barbarians of California on select dates. They’re also linking up with System of a Down for a double header in Toronto this September.

For now, we wait. If ‘private music’ is Deftones speak for what’s next, we’re probably in for something dark, layered and emotionally loaded. Credit to Revolver on original reporting and graphic!
