Connecticut’s own Currents have officially returned. The metalcore five piece just unleashed ‘It Only Gets Darker’, their first new music since 2023’s ‘The Death We Seek’. Alongside the single, the band dropped a dark, intense music video that echoes the track’s heavy lyrical themes.
Currents ‘It Only Gets Darker’ video:
Frontman Brian Wille keeps it blunt: “Embrace darkness. Accept fate. Surrender yourself. And feed the flame. ‘It Only Gets Darker’ is now yours.”
The track doesn’t stray far from the sound that earned Currents their reputation in the modern metalcore scene. Crushing riffs, brooding atmospheres and Wille’s signature mix of growls and melody drive the song forward, showing that Currents haven’t softened their edge since their last record.

Released via SharpTone Records, ‘It Only Gets Darker’ marks the start of the band’s next chapter, but whether it signals a full album remains unconfirmed.
