Brian Burkheiser has officially returned, and he didn’t come back quietly. After a long stretch of halted releases and behind the scenes complications, the former I Prevail co vocalist has dropped a new SCATTERBRAIN track, marking his first piece of music in months.
It’s a brooding, atmospheric Taylor Swift cover that leans deep into the unsettling aesthetic that first defined his new project.
Since SCATTERBRAIN’s initial launch in mid-2024, Burkheiser has presented the project as something raw and unfiltered, a space to explore the heaviest corners of his personal life, but releases stalled, rollout plans paused, and a year of turbulence kept the music locked behind a wall fans couldn’t see.
Today marks the end of that drought:
A message directly from Brian
Burkheiser shared a statement with fans, one that lands with even more weight given the year he’s had:
“To my fans:
This year forced me to pivot in ways I never expected, and it tested me more than I can explain. But through it all, your support has meant everything.
I’m excited to finally share a song with you. I chose this cover because it truly resonates with me and serves as a nod to what first sparked my career.
I’m still working toward the day I can release my original music, but for now, I’m grateful to have found a way to put a piece of art into the world.”

SCATTERBRAIN’s long road back
Burkheiser previously revealed that the project was supposed to include two full length albums, but circumstances stopped everything cold, this release is the first real indicator that the wheels are finally turning again.
Burkheiser has teased more content on the way, behind the scenes footage, commentary pieces, and additional SCATTERBRAIN updates, hinting that this release may be the spark that restarts everything.
