AFI Announce New Album ‘Silver Bleeds The Black Sun…’ And Drop Lead Single ‘Behind The Clock’

Share

AFI are back with their twelfth studio album, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun, landing October 3 via Run For Cover Records/Civilians. The record leads with the haunting new single ‘Behind the Clock’, a slow burner wrapped in shadows and tension, paired with a video directed by Gilbert Trejo.

‘Behind the Clock’ feels like a glimpse through a cracked mirror, vocalist Davey Havok’s delivery sits somewhere between wounded and weaponised. The Trejo directed clip leans into that unease, capturing a voyeuristic discomfort that fits AFI’s habit of drawing you close, then pushing you off the edge.

Behind The Clock Video

“Gilbert’s video sublimates the essence of the song,” Havok said. “Working with him was a privilege.” Trejo, for his part, described the shoot as peeling back the curtain on Havok’s lyricism, which often cuts straight to the marrow.

AFI aren’t reinventing themselves here, they’ve never stopped. Since their hardcore beginnings in the early ’90s, they’ve shapeshifted through deathrock, goth-punk, and stadium sized alt-rock without losing grip on their identity. This new chapter leans further into ethereal territory. Silver Bleeds the Black Sun… is dreamlike and dirge-heavy, brushing up against post-punk ambience while keeping its teeth sharp.

The album promises a unified mood, dark, grand and occasionally otherworldly. The band describe it as tapping into long standing influences buried deep in their DNA. The result is something that feels out of time, both nostalgic and entirely new.
