Set in a near future that feels uncomfortably close, The Shrouds stars Vincent Cassel as Karsh, a haunted tech entrepreneur. Karsh’s grief over the loss of his wife Becca (played by Diane Kruger) drives him to invent a new kind of digital voyeurism, The Shrouds, a system that lets families monitor the decomposition of their loved ones’ bodies via cameras in their coffins. It’s Cronenberg’s nightmare vision of what happens when our obsession with connection refuses to die!
Things start to spiral when Karsh’s tech becomes the target of grave desecrations and the feed from the coffins is hacked. What started as a meditation on mourning, turns into a dark conspiracy as Karsh’s connection to Becca is brutally severed. His fragile grasp on reality begins to crumble and his twisted relationship with Becca’s sister (also played by Kruger) only deepens the unease.

Cronenberg, still the king of fusing dread with dark humour has crafted a film that crawls under your skin. The Shrouds forces you to ask, how far would you go to hold onto the dead? And what happens when technology turns that longing into something monstrous?
Expect Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce to deliver performances as cold and haunting as the tech Karsh creates. This is Cronenberg at his rawest, a film born from personal grief, designed to make you squirm.
