‘The Black Phone 2’ is officially coming and yes, Ethan Hawke’s terrifying Grabber is back for another round of psychological hell.
Take a look at the trailer here:
Slated to hit cinemas just in time for Halloween , the sequel picks up after the events of the 2021 original, which became an instant cult hit. With thanks to its brutal pacing, vintage dread, and Hawke’s skin crawling performance as a sadistic child snatcher in a cracked magician’s mask. It was tense, unpredictable, and uncomfortably human, a rare thing in modern horror!
Plot details are being kept tighter than a soundproof basement door, but Blumhouse has confirmed the sequel will expand on the universe introduced in Joe Hill’s short story. Possibly digging deeper into the paranormal threads hinted at in the first film, expect more supernatural interference, more victims with unfinished business and more screen time for that blood curdling rotary phone.
Ethan Hawke’s return as “The Grabber” is both unexpected and chilling, given the character’s fate at the end of the original. Whether it’s through flashbacks, haunting visions, or something even darker, Hawke’s back in the chair and with the mask. Also confirmed to return is Mason Thames as Finney, suggesting that unfinished trauma might be back on the line.
Director Scott Derrickson, who helmed the original and brought Sinister to life, is also back for the sequel, ensuring that same lo fi, claustrophobic terror hits hard once again.
Horror sequels are rarely guaranteed to land but The Black Phone 2 is shaping up to be something more than a cash in. If the first film was about survival, this one might be about reckoning.
‘The Black Phone 2’ hits theatres 17 October 2025. Don’t answer unless you’re ready.
