The Original Ninja Turtles Movie Returns To Cinemas For Two Nights Only

Share

Cowabunga, nostalgia freaks! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 movie re release is happening. It’s heading back to the big screen for its 35th anniversary and it’s not just a cash in rerun.

On August 17 and 20, the original live action film will return to theatres in the US thanks to Fathom Events, Saga Arts and Warner Bros. This isn’t just a straight replay, fans will be treated to a brand new behind the scenes featurette called Turtles Unmasked. Loaded with never before seen footage, extended deleted scenes and commentary from director Steve Barron.

It’s a chance to revisit the gritty, animatronic fuelled chaos that started as a black and white comic in 1984, before exploding into global ‘Turtlemania’. Including an epic voice cast of Corey Feldman, Brian Tochi, Josh Pais, and Robbie Rist as the Turtles and Kevin Clash as Master Splinter. This was a wild crossover of punk, pizza and puppetry that shaped a generation.

Also returning are OG allies April O’Neil (Judith Hoag) and the ever chaotic Casey Jones (Elias Koteas), whose street brawler meets hockey dad energy defined cool for a lot of 1990s latchkey kids.

Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Turtles were born out of Do It Yourself indie hustle and they kept control of their vision through it all. As Eastman once put it:

“We knew how lucky we were to own our characters. So anything that was going to be done with them, we wanted full say.”
