‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Is Taking The Franchise Into Full Survival Horror Mode

Share

Forget cuddly nostalgia and kids outrunning raptors in sneakers, Jurassic World: Rebirth is coming for your f**king throat.

In Theatres July 2, the latest instalment in the dino saga hits reset on the franchise with a harder and darker edge. Gone are the corporate theme parks and genetically polished monsters, this time it’s a raw survival mission into the belly of InGen’s worst mistakes.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla) and written by OG Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, Rebirth dials up the tension with a new cast. Led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey. They’re dropped into the quarantine zone of Ile Saint Hubert, an island teeming with experimental, unstable dinosaur freakshows, to retrieve DNA from three apex predators.

If you’re wondering? Yeah, it gets bloody fast. Take a look at the trailer below and strap yourself in for what is looking like a LOT of fun!

New Nightmares

Among the new nightmares is the Distortus rex, a mutated six limbed horror that looks like a T. Rex crossed with a centipede and a fever dream. It’s one of several InGen misfires that should’ve stayed buried. The team’s clean operation goes sideways when they encounter a marooned civilian family, turning extraction into a fight for survival.

Set five years after Dominion, the world has largely eradicated free roaming dinosaurs. What’s left is hiding in tropical isolation! This island is ground zero for what happens when man plays god, but then forgets to clean up the mess.

Shot on gritty 35mm film across Thailand, Malta and the UK and featuring practical effects and animatronics over CG sheen, Rebirth is built to feel physical and very f**king real.

This isn’t about bringing dinosaurs back to life, it’s about surviving what’s already been unleashed.

Jurassic World: Rebirth opens July 2.
