STARSET Announce New Album Silos, Drop Cover Of ‘Shattered Dreams’

Share

Columbus space rock architects STARSET have locked in their next full-length transmission: Silos will arrive September 12 via Fearless Records.

The record is a typically ambitious move from Dustin Bates and co., packing two brand new tracks alongside six atmospheric interludes and a run of recent singles. True to form, it’s less a straightforward album and more a sprawling narrative. One that invites listeners into Starset’s dystopian universe through layered soundscapes and conceptual world building.

A haunting take on ‘Shattered Dreams’

To mark the announcement, Starset have shared their cover of Johnny Hates Jazz’s 1987 hit ‘Shattered Dreams’. In their hands, the glossy pop anthem is stripped down and rebuilt as something darker, more haunted and perfectly in tune with the looming unease of 2025.

Bates says the track had been on his short list of dream covers for years, but recent developments in AI pushed him to finally record it. “I’ve started to become convinced that soon, anyone will be able to cover any song in any style with the use of AI,” he explains. “So it started to feel like now or never.”

The cover isn’t a one off either. Silos features two reinterpretations, with Bates framing them as both homage and a response to the changing creative landscape.

Tracklist and Concept

Starset’s reputation as one of rock’s most cinematic outfits isn’t slowing down here. The Silos tracklist reads like a sci-fi script, weaving between heavy hitters (‘Degenerate’, ‘Brave New World’, ‘Toksik’) and interludes with titles that suggest fragments of a wider narrative: ‘Praesens’, ‘Rise of Messenger’, ‘The Antihero’s Journey’.

It’s an approach that’s defined the band since Transmissions, one that’s earned them not just a rabid following but a reputation as architects of modern rock’s most ambitious brand. Forbes once called them “one of the most firmly established brands of any modern rock band,” and the numbers back it up: billions of streams, platinum and gold singles, and a dedicated global fanbase.

With Silos, Starset aren’t just releasing another album. They’re sending out another broadcast from their own corner of the cosmos and daring fans to tune in.
