San Jose’s heavyweights Mugshot are back swinging with their first album in nearly a decade, ‘All The Devils Are Here’, out now via Pure Noise Records. After keeping fans waiting since 2016’s Dull Boy, the band returns with a vengeance, offering up 12 tracks that smash metalcore and hardcore together like a violent storm.
Produced by Randy Leboeuf (you’ve heard his work with Kublai Khan, The Acacia Strain, Gideon, Bad Omens), this is Mugshot at their most pissed off and personal. The band says this is the most collaborative effort they’ve put forward, and you can hear it with every riff, lyric and breakdown feeling fuelled by collective rage and catharsis. Having Leboeuf onboard gave the recording process a fresh punch, with the band describing him as a “fifth member” who helped sharpen their vision.
Lyrical Deep Dive
Lead vocalist Ringo Waterman, who officially joined the fold last year, sounds fully at home tearing through the chaos. From opener ‘Die In Fear’ to the brutal title track, All The Devils Are Here doesn’t let up, this is a record built to hit hard and leave scars. If last year’s Cold Will EP reignited the flame, this album burns the whole damn house down.
Lyrically, the album dives deep into personal struggles rather than the political fury of Cold Will. These songs channel the damage external forces wreak on everyday lives. You know, Mugshot doesn’t shy away from the ugly truths.
