Zach Cregger’s Weapons Brings Unsettling Disappearances And Small Town Horror To Theatres August 8

Share

From the twisted brain behind Barbarian comes another dose of dread soaked cinema. Weapons, the latest horror/thriller from director Zach Cregger, is set to hit theatres and IMAX on August 8, 2025. If the trailers are anything to go by, it’s going to be deeply messed up, in the best possible way.

What’s It About?

The premise is simple but chilling: all but one child from a single class vanish, same night, same time. There are no signs of struggle and no trace, they’re just gone. Set in the seemingly normal suburb of Maybrook, the film follows the fallout of this impossible mass disappearance as paranoia and fear crawl through the cracks of the community. With no clear answers, suspicion spirals and something far more sinister may be lurking beneath the surface.

Who’s in it?

Leading the cast is Josh Brolin, backed by a sharp ensemble that includes Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. Cregger not only directs but also pens the script and co-produces alongside genre powerhouses Roy Lee (It, Barbarian) and Miri Yoon.

The visuals come courtesy of Larkin Seiple (Everything Everywhere All at Once), with Tom Hammock on production design and a disorienting score crafted by Ryan and Hays Holladay and Cregger himself.

Weapons – Trailer 2

Much like Barbarian, Weapons appears to blur the line between psychological horror and full throttle nightmare fuel. With themes of mass hysteria, suburban dread, and a possible cosmic twist, this is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most talked about horror releases.

We are just over a week away, it will be interesting to see if it lives up to the hype. This years best?

Weapons opens exclusively in theatres and IMAX on August 8, 2025, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
