Jason Voorhees Returns: ‘Sweet Revenge’ Trailer Marks His First Kill In 16 Years

Share

After 16 years in the crypt, Jason Voorhees is back, and he’s got unfinished business at Camp Crystal Lake.

Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con during the 45th anniversary of Friday the 13th, the horror icon finally re-emerged in fresh footage via a brutal new teaser for Sweet Revenge, a short film developed by Horror, Inc. in partnership with Angry Orchard (yes, the hard cider brand).

The project marks the first official on screen return of Jason since the 2009 reboot, and while he’s only glimpsed briefly in the trailer, the image of that machete-wielding silhouette stomping back into frame is enough to send a shiver down any horror fan’s spine.

Sweet Revenge Trailer

Directed by Mike Nelson (Wrong Turn, Silent Night), Sweet Revenge will drop on the official Jason Universe YouTube channel. There’s no release date yet, but this teaser serves as the bloodied welcome mat for a full-blown resurrection. Alongside the short film, Peacock is still cooking up Crystal Lake, the long teased prequel series.

“I used to sneak these movies on VHS as a kid,” Nelson said. “Now I’m directing one. It’s surreal, and gory as hell.” According to Nelson, Sweet Revenge is a “comforting, gory hug,” which sounds exactly like the kind of twisted love letter fans have been craving.

There’s more coming. At the SDCC panel, Horror Inc. EVP Robbie Barsamian confirmed a new Friday the 13th feature film is officially in development, though details remain locked in the crypt for now. “It’s happening,” he said, “and a new sequel game is also top of the list.”

This is the new fans have been waiting for and Jason’s return isn’t just nostalgic, it’s a warning. The campfire’s lit, the woods are quiet and the hockey mask is back on. You know what that means: someone’s about to get messed up.
