Ice Nine Kills are back and they’ve hacked the simulation. In their latest video ‘The Great Unknown’, the theatrical metalcore crew blend brutal riffs with bullet time visuals! The Matrix inspired fever dream that’s equal parts cyberpunk, violence and chaos.
Directed by genre regular Jensen Noen, the short film style clip sees Ice Nine Kills diving headfirst into a digital dystopia, complete with Agents, glitchy realities and a fight or die ultimatum. Spencer Charnas once again takes centre stage as both messiah and maniac, leading a cast that includes some iconic horror legends. Terry Kiser (Weekend at Bernie’s), Bill Moseley (House of 1000 Corpses) and Super Troopers’ Paul Soter all appear. There’s even a guest appearance from Bad Wolves’ Doc Coyle, just to round out the mayhem!
‘The Great Unknown’ video pulls visual DNA from The Matrix while anchoring it in Ice Nine Kill’s high camp, blood splattered brand of horrorcore. Just the way we like it right? Musically, it’s a sharp edged, cinematic anthem laced with orchestral stabs and electronic pulses! Lyrically throwing nods to pills, prophecies and free will, all before climaxing with a the rallying cry: we are not afraid to die!
The video is stacked with wild stuntwork, heavy VFX and sleek costuming that cranks up the tension and theatre. Beneath the spectacle however is a throughline of rebellion and resistance, one that echoes through the final line: Let’s see you dodge this!
Whether you’re a long time Ice Nine Kill fan or just getting started with the carnage, ‘The Great Unknown’ is a must watch/listen. It finds them at their most ambitious, but once again seamlessly knocking it out the ballpark!
