Ice Nine Kills Drop Matrix Inspired Teaser For New Single ‘The Great Unknown’

Share

Ice Nine Kills are set to release their new single ‘The Great Unknown’ this Tuesday. The band have shared a sleek teaser that leans heavily into Matrix era cyberpunk visuals!

UPDATE – The Single is NOW LIVE HERE!

The short trailer is live now on YouTube and really is an ultimate hype up, that leaves a lot of questions begging to be answered. Some parts including frontman Spencer Charnas navigating a digital underworld, styled with familiar green code and leather jackets. It’s an ominous tone that pays homage to The Matrix without making it feel too much like a carbon copy. It’s a shift from the band’s typical horror movie influences, but don’t stress it is mixed in there. Moving into sci-fi territory with the same cinematic ambition fans have come to expect, same but different!

Musically, the teaser only gives a brief taste, a brooding, atmospheric build up layered with synthetic tension. While there’s no full preview of the track itself, the vibe may suggest a darker, more electronic leaning direction that fits the cyber themed narrative.

This will be the band’s first new material since wrapping their Welcome to Horrorwood cycle, outside of some live releases and variants. It’s already generating speculation about a potential new album or expanded story arc. (watch the video for more on that). Ice Nine Kills have built their identity on combining theatrical visuals with genre storytelling and they do it very well. It looks like ‘The Great Unknown’ is set to continue that trend, but with a fresh twist.

Whether this signals a broader thematic shift or just a one off concept remains to be seen, but it’s a clear reminder that Ice Nine Kills aren’t content to stand still. Will Spencer continue to ‘Neo’ his way through a an entire video series? All will be revealed soon!
