The hype about Deftones new music is building, something big is stirring in their camp. All signs are pointing to a long awaited return this Thursday, July 10!
During their recent London show, the band projected a cryptic message behind them mid set: ‘Private Music. X.VII.MMXXV. Distributed by Deftones. All rights reserved.’ For anyone who skipped Roman numerals in school, that’s July 10, 2025. Five years after Ohms, the wait might finally be over?
Adding fuel to the fire, Deftones have been quietly dropping unsettling stills to Instagram. Phrases like ‘Negative space in cycles caught on our radar’, ‘We’ve been waiting here patiently locked in this state clocking our time’, and now ‘Why do we bathe in this psyche’ and ‘Remain calm in our mental’ are sprawled across dark, slow burning visuals that feel lifted straight from a music video storyboard. The mood? Bleak, meditative, very Deftones.
One shot seems to confirm Fred Sablan’s presence, hinting he’s officially filling the role vacated by bassist Sergio Vega in 2022. Sablan’s been holding it down live for a while, locking him in feels like the next logical move, especially if a full album cycle is about to kick off.
Frontman Chino Moreno previously confirmed that the band has “a whole record recorded all musically,” with vocals being wrapped up slowly but deliberately. Stephen Carpenter has teased a sonic continuation of Ohms and Koi No Yokan, and producer Nick Raskulinecz (Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters) is reportedly behind the desk.
Unfortunately they missed Glasto last month, citing illness. Now it seems they’ve been quietly building something massive behind the scenes. It’s looking more and more like the wait for Deftones new music is coming to an end…
New Deftones. This week. Stay alert.
