The Toxic Avenger Returns In Radioactive Reboot Starring Dinklage, Wood And Bacon

Share

Brace your eyeballs: The Toxic Avenger is oozing back onto screens in all its grotesque, glory-soaked brilliance. The cult classic has been reanimated for a new era, and this time it’s dragging some heavyweight talent through the sludge! Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood and Kevin Bacon star in the twisted reimagining, hitting U.S. cinemas on August 29, 2025.

First released in 1984 by DIY horror gods Troma Entertainment, The Toxic Avenger built its legacy on low-budget carnage, anti-corporate rage and radioactive revenge. Now, director Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) is taking the reins for a slicker, but still scummy take on the myth of Winston Gooze, a downtrodden janitor who mutates into a deformed, mop-wielding vigilante after a toxic spill.

The Toxic Avenger Trailer

This reboot doesn’t sanitise the splatter. Strong language, graphic violence and sexual references have earned it an unrated tag, so don’t expect a squeaky clean superhero flick. This isn’t Marvel. It’s more like Deadpool if it was dragged through a Jersey swamp full of needles and bile!

The Plot

At its core, the story still hits the same vein: Toxie rising from nobody to folk hero, taking on the corporate slimebags threatening his family, his community and what’s left of decency in a world soaked in greed. With Dinklage bringing pathos to the titular mutant though, Elijah Wood going full goblin mode and Kevin Bacon chewing the scenery as a corrupt overlord, this thing’s stacked for a cult meets mainstream moment.

Runtime clocks in at 1 hour 42 minutes. Enough time to burn through buckets of gore, black humour and righteous mop-fu without dragging. Whether you’re a long time Tromaville freak or just here to watch capitalism get punched in the d*ck, this reboot looks ready to melt faces.
